I need a place to put random pictures, thoughts, and opinions about the city that don't fit the Forgotten Chicago mold. Expect the blog posts to be very sporadic at first, until I really get into things.

My latest obsession has been locating the best examples of Mid-Century Modern architecture in Chicagoland, so there will probably be many posts highlighting interesting Mid-Century buildings in the early days of this blog. My main focus will be on commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.

I recently located this gem, on 159th Street in the south suburb of Harvey:

While it's not the best MCM building around, it does have interesting details which make it worthy of saving. While it has obviously been used as both a hardware store and a church in the past, it appears disused and for sale. Mid-Century buildings are hard to save in general, and this one is located in an economically disadvantaged suburb with little interest in preserving it's historic architecture. I wouldn't be surprised to find this building gone sometime soon. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong.
